The Hussey's of Dorset
Charles Gigger Hussey was born on 21 December 1805 in Wimborne Minster, Dorset. The youngest son of George Edward Hussey and Mary Ann Davis, Charles was christened on 27 June 1806 in Wimborne Minster, Dorset when he was six months old.
On 21 October 1827, Charles Hussey married Ann Sevier at the St Mary's Church in Lambeth, Surrey. Ann, the daughter of William Sevier and Elizabeth Davis of Stepney, Middlesex was born on 2 January 1800 in Stepney, Middlesex and was christened on 6 July 1800 at St George-in-the-East Church, Stepney, Middlesex.
According to Beth Hallam, Charles and Ann Hussey had four children, Charles Richard, Frederick John, Mary Ann Julia and Sarah Ann. Frederick and Mary Ann may have died as children. Charles Hussey was employed as a clerk in the General Post Office in 1831. He and Ann lived in Addington square, Camberwell, London. By 1841, Charles was living at the residence of Sarah Miller, a dressmaker of Trafalgar street, Lambeth, Surrey. Charles occupation was recorded as a postman. Ann Hussey was living in the home of James and Sarah Leggett in Temple street, London road, Southwark, Surrey. Ann was earning an income as a dressmaker and had her 1-year-old daughter Sarah with her. |
In 1851, Charles Hussey is living at 21 St Georges road, Camberwell, Surrey with his "wife" Sarah. Charles was employed as a "letter carrier" [postman], Sarah is 40 years old and was born in Liverpool, Lancashire. Ann Hussey was living in Norfolk place, St Mary Newington, Surrey with her 20-year old son, Charles Richard and 11-year-old daughter, Sarah Ann. Ann Hussey was recorded as being deaf, her son Charles was supporting his mother and sister working as a carpenter.
Ann Hussey died two years later, on 4 October 1853 in Walworth, Surrey at the age of 53 years. She was buried at Nunhead Cemetery in Southwark, Surrey the following day. No further records of Charles Gigger Hussey have been located at this time. |

Charlotte was born on 20 January 1839 in Chichester, Sussex, England and died on 13 October 1909 in Adelaide, South Australia at age 70 years. They had ten children: Albert Henry, Lidia Sevier, Edith Maria, Amelia Ada, Frederick Charles, Charlotte Maud, Emily Welcome, Blanche Cole, George Edgar and Florence Lillian.
- Frederick John Hussey was born on 25 November 1832 and was christened on 10 September 1834. He may have died as a child.
- Mary Ann Julia Hussey was born on 23 August 1834 in Camberwell, Surrey and was christened on 18 September 1834. She may have died as a child.
- Sarah Ann Hussey was born in about 1840 in St Mary Newington, Surrey.
