Artisans From England
Before I became interested in finding out about my ancestors, I knew nothing about the Mason family. I was fortunate that a lot of research into this family had been done by others. The late Arthur Pascoe spent many years researching the Mason, Bourne and Chisholm families. In 1981, Mavis Fathers transcribed information about these families from the research provided by Arthur Pascoe and additional information that she was able to locate. Together, Arthur and Mavis contacted many of the descendants with an aim to compile a family history. Unfortunately Arthur Pascoe passed away in 1990 without being able to complete his planned project.
Before his death Arthur Pascoe became acquainted with another Mason descendant, Kevin Quinlan. Kevin was a member of the Society of Australian Genealogists (SAG). He also spent many years researching the Mason family and during that time accumulated a great deal of information. Kevin Quinlan died on 10 September 2005 after a long illness. I was fortunate enough to correspond with Kevin for a few short months in 2005. Although our contact was very brief, I was grateful to receive a substantial amount of information on the Mason family, both from Kevin’s research and also the research of Arthur Pascoe. I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to benefit from their knowledge and dedication.
I also acknowledge the assistance of Liz Healey, Mavis Fathers and Betty Hall. Betty allowed me access to her collection of letters, photographs, paintings and documents relating to Edward Mason. Marea Holland has provided photographs and information relating to the family of Charles Willmot Mason. Gerry Tordiff of Canada kindly forwarded her research into the Bourne family and Rob Whiteman of England supplied information on the Whiteman family.
