Wooderson's from Hampshire
William Wooderson was born in about 1815 in Hampshire, England and was christened on 7 April 1815 in Odiham, Hampshire. William married 18-year-old Martha Bracknell on 15 June 1834 in Odiham, Hampshire. Martha was the daughter of John and Martha Bracknell. John Bracknell was a labourer and the family lived in Hook Common in Odiham, Hampshire. Martha was christened on 17 September 1816 in Odiham, Hampshire.
By 1841 William and Martha Wooderson were living in Dover road, Folkestone, Kent and had a family of four children, Henry, Harriett, Eliza and Ann. William was employed as a labourer. Sadly, young Ann died in October 1842 at the age of 2 years.
In the following ten years William and Martha added another five children to their growing family, Charlotte, Jesse, Emma, Jane and Charles. The family were still living in Dover road, Folkestone, Kent and William was still working as a labourer. Another son, George, was born in about March 1852 in Elham district, Kent.
Tragically both George Wooderson and Charles Wooderson died in April 1855 in Folkestone, Kent. George was just 3 years old and Charles was 5 years old. They were both buried on the same day in Folkestone, Kent. Poor Martha had lost her husband the year before as well. William Wooderson died in September 1854 in Southwark, London at the age of 39 years. He was buried in Folkestone, Kent on 29 September 1854. |
In 1861, Martha had two of her daughters living with her at 4 Saffrons Row, Folkestone, Kent – Charlotte and Jane. Charlotte helped her mother in her laundry business, whilst Jane was still at school.
On 26 January 1863, Martha Wooderson married 58-year-old William Arnold in Folkestone, Kent. William was a labourer from Copthorne, Sussex. In 1871 William and Martha Arnold were still living in Saffrons Row, Folkestone, Kent but only Jane was still at home, she was working as a laundress. Jane eventually married in 1878 when she was 30-years-old, but tragically she died less than a year later in April 1879. Her husband, William Higgins, died at sea on 12 October 1883 whilst working as a boatswain in the Merchant Marines.
William and Martha Arnold moved to 12 Mill Bay, Folkestone, Kent before 1881. Martha died two years later in August 1883 in Folkestone, Kent at the age of 67 years. William Arnold died in about December 1902 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was 97 years old. |

Henry married Emma Elizabeth Symonds in March quarter 1861 in Elham district, Kent. Emma was born on 16 October 1836 in Dover, Kent and died in January 1895 in Elham district, Kent at age 58 years. They had nine children: Harry, Jane Emma, Elizabeth Charlotte, William Henry, Sarah Susanna, Harriet Rosanna, Eliza Amelia, Martha Jane and George Alfred Peter.

William was born in December quarter 1847 in Folkestone, Kent and died in February 1919 in Folkestone, Kent at age 71 years. They had five children: Eliza Mary, Louisa Adelaide, Harriett Martha, William and Charles Jesse. Charles Jesse Stone also died as an infant.

Together with his siblings Emma, Jane and Charles, he was christened on 8 October 1852 in Folkestone, Kent. Jesse died in January 1927 in Elham district, Kent at the age 83 years. Jesse married Sarah Catherine Sheppard on 28 February 1863 in Folkestone, Kent. Sarah was born in about 1843 in Lydd, Kent and died in July 1925 in Elham district, Kent at age 82 years. They had ten children: Jesse, Charles Edward, Walter, William George, Elizabeth Kate, Albert, Henry George, Martha Jane, James George and Emma Martha.
